Saving on Bills

I read tips online that said you can often get a lower interest rate on a credit card or a discount on a bill just by asking. I decided to put this to work.

I just had a great hit today with it. I called the Cable company and told them that I had recently received a lot of ads advertising DSL which was cheaper than cable, and I inquired if there were any discounts which would make my cable more competitive with the DSL rate. Note: I never said I was planning to switch to DSL. I apparently didn’t even have to threaten it. He put me on hold for a moment and came back saying he was able to put us on a promotion which will save us $10 a month for 12 months (which a quick check of the website shows is the “new customer” promotion currently running).

Combining this with the DVR promotion that I was also recently able to get on (I was on it from signup but got kicked off by mistake when I changed to HD-DVR), I have reduced our cable bill from appromiately $110 a month to approximately $85 a month. I can’t complain. 🙂
